Song from '87 to '88
Hi Guys,

I've been going nuts for years trying to find this song. It would have been on the radio, on Adult contemporary or Alternative Rock stations around 1987-1988, the singer's voice was similar to Lou Reed. The song is sort of a melancholy lament about a woman. There was a cool guitar solo, sounded sort of like that effect when a guitar player uses a metal cylinder with their fingers on the strings. Here is a .mp3 of me trying to hum the guitar solo(dont laugh).

Thanks Much, Anthony

Your MP3 link brings up a basic search page. I would suggest using Zshare.com

Do you recall other songs that were playing on the radio the same time this song was out?

Do you know if there was a music video to this song?

I think there was a video, which I caught just as it was ending(of course after the title info disappeared), I remember black and white, single subject vocalist kind of shot. Even this was way back, '89 or so.

Around that time on alt rock stations, stuff like The Bangles-"Hazy Shade of Winter", or The Cure-"Why cant I be you" or were out. It was a much different sound than groups like these, I remember the guitar sounding almost country/rock-a-billy like, the kind of sound achieved when a guitar player uses a metal cylinder on their fingers while they play. I remember hearing it on an Alt rock station, and later in the early 90's on adult contemporary station, its a melancholy kind of song, but so good.

Thanks
-Anthony

Its very much in that vein, if you like the Chris Isaak song, you would love this one. I should start using that song as an example, it could have been performed by his band. The voice on this song was different, sounds almost like Lou Reed's voice.

Try this one. Great musician but, unfortunately, he died not too long ago:
